QUESTIONS

Short answers to what people ask first.

Tap a question to open it. One or two lines each — where another page carries the full detail, I point at it instead of repeating it here.

DO YOU TAKE MY COMPUTER AWAY?

No. It never leaves your table.

There is no shop to take it to — that is the whole idea.

DO I HAVE TO BE HOME?

Yes, someone needs to be there for the visit.

You do not have to hover. But the work happens in your space, so somebody has to let me in and sign off at the end.

WHY IS TRAVEL CHARGED SEPARATELY?

Because the drive is real work and it differs wildly by address.

Folding it into the labor rate would mean charging someone in Port Royal for a trip to Hilton Head. The brackets are on the travel page.

WHAT IF YOU CANNOT FIX IT?

Then you do not pay for the labor.

The $30 diagnostic and the trip fee are always billed, whatever the outcome. Both are in the estimate before I drive — see services.

CAN THE PRICE CHANGE MID-JOB?

Not without you agreeing to a new estimate first.

If I open it up and find something worse, I stop and explain before spending another dollar of yours.

MAC OR WINDOWS?

Both, for everyday repair, setup and migration work.

Board-level soldering and Apple-internal parts are outside what I do — I will say so before you book rather than after.

CAN YOU COME TODAY?

Sometimes, and it costs $75 more.

Same-day is the one surcharge most people hit. Only one surcharge ever applies to a visit, and it is disclosed before I drive.

DO YOU MARK UP PARTS?

No. Parts are billed at what I paid, with 6% sales tax on the materials.

Labor is untaxed. I will show you the receipt if you want to see it.

WHAT DOES A VISIT ACTUALLY COST, ALL IN?

Labor plus travel, plus parts if there are any.

Three visits added up end to end are on the services page — a Port Royal tune-up lands at $110.00.

IS THERE A DISCOUNT?

10% for military and first responders.

It comes off the labor only, with current ID shown at the visit. Travel, parts and premium surcharges are billed in full.

MY FILES ARE GONE. CAN YOU GET THEM BACK?

If the drive is healthy, yes, during the visit. If it is failing, no.

Power it off and stop using it, then read this. Rushing a dying drive ruins the odds.

ARE YOU INSURED?

Yes — general liability, and Outpost Tech is a registered South Carolina LLC.

I hold no technical certifications, and I am not going to pretend otherwise.

CAN I JUST CALL YOU?

Not yet, there is no phone line. You can book online or email me, whichever suits you.

A business line is coming. Until it exists I am not publishing a number that rings in my pocket at midnight.
